Bookkeepers manage financial accounts for business owners. That is what they do in every state and an Austin bookkeeper is no different. The description of a bookkeeper is someone who makes sure that information is properly entered into ledgers and provides balance sheets that show profit versus expenses.
In Texas, there is no such thing as a bookkeeper license like there is in some other states however, you are required to hold certification from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. There are certain things that you have to do in order to become an Austin bookkeeper and to do QuickBooks Austin as well. You can seek employment as a bookkeeper in Texas without certification but you are limited as in what you are allowed to do without it. If you still don’t want to be certified as a CPA there are other avenues to explore.
You can become certified as a public bookkeeper. This still limits what you can do in your practice but it can increase your chances of employment and make you look better to perspective employees as well.
For Texas state certification, you need to follow the following steps:
You must have a bachelorate degree in accounting or a finance related field and also complete an ethics course that has been approved by the Test State Board of Public Accountancy.
You must work under a licensed CPA for 2,000 hours or one year of experience. You can do this by obtaining employment through a government firm, accounting firm or other CPA business.
When you submit an application of intent to take test for certification you will have to have proof of your educational background before you can test. You will also have to prove your work experience and pass a criminal background check. Once you are approved you will be given a testing date.
You will then register to take your exam with the Prometric-testing center. You must make an 85% or higher on the open book exam to get your license.
After you have taken the exam, you fill out an application of issuance for a CPA License and complete an Oath of Office form, which then has to be notarized. You then submit these forms and the state required licensing fee to the board. After your test scores and all other information has been reviewed the board will let you know the status of your application. If you are approved you will be issued a license and be able to practice in the state of Texas. If you are not approved for some reason you will be informed of that reason and given all of the information necessary about filing appeals or correcting a deficiency.
QuickBooks Austin trainingmay be a little different but any information can be found out through your CPA agency or by performing a quick search online. Being a bookkeeper is not for everyone but if, you have a love for math, books, and organization it may be just the career for you.
